THE 2024 WINTER WOOLLY BLOWS IN ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd!
The Winter Woolly is our annual downhill fat biking event. We’ll shake the snow off the lift for one day only of groomed DH riding, a DH fat bike race, guided rides, and more. It’s about to be your favorite day of the winter!
Fat bikes only. All tires must be 3.8″ or wider.
Admission is free for 2024 All-Access Season Pass Holders.
Weather Date: Saturday, February 10th.

OPEN TRAILS
The main draw of the Winter Woolly is access to groomed DH trails in the winter. As for which trails will be open? That’s a decision that Mother Nature gets to make for us, and depending on the weather we may not have a definitive list until the week of. We’ll update this page as we get closer to the event!
Our XC network will be free and open to ride. XC trails will be groomed as well!
RACING
The Winter Woolly DH Fat Bike Race is a highlight of every winter, and we don’t expect this one to be any different. Race against your friends, against the elements, against mankind’s hubris…just don’t be afraid to hit the snow.
This is an open class race, with the top three finishers taking home prizes and bragging rights. (And probably a little extra snow in their pants.) Race registration is available as a $15 add-on to your event registration. Limited to 90 participants.
Race trail is officially TBD (see: the whims of Mother Nature) but has traditionally been Upper NE Style to Lower Happy Hour. We’ll keep you posted.
BE PREPARED
Winter Woolly conditions have always been variable! We recommend coming prepared with multiple layers (and probably a set of dry clothes.)
The Winter Woolly is the first day of riding in 2024, which means everyone participating needs to get a new Highland waiver verified. To help our fabulous Welcome Center staff keep the line moving in the morning, fill out your waiver online in advance and have your photo ID ready when you check in!
We expect that parking will be tight, so we recommend carpooling if possible.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I’m a season pass holder. Do I need to register?
If you are a 2024 All-Access Season Pass Holder, you get free access to the Winter Woolly and are not required to register in advance. (Though you’re certainly welcome to! There is a free registration open for All-Access pass holders to use if you want to RSVP. You can also use that option to purchase an event t-shirt or register to participate in the fat bike race.)
How wide do my tires have to be?
This is a fat bikes only event. Tires must be 3.8″ or wider.
Can I pedal to the summit?
No, we will not have uphill pedal access available for the Winter Woolly. If you want to ride any of our downhill trails, you will need a lift pass.
If you just want to hang out, enjoy the atmosphere, and do some pedaling, our XC network is always free to ride! XC trails will be groomed.
Do you rent fat bikes?
Our bike shop has a limited number of fat bike rentals. We expect that they will all be booked well in advance, so don’t hesitate to lock in yours.
If you need a rental, we recommend first checking in with your local bike shop. Lakes Region E-Bikes in Franklin, NH is a good resource close to Highland.
